The slow burning rise of Alzinger—the brand created by both father and son through two generations of winemaking—has finally afforded this standout Wachau estate the international renown it deserves. Production is limited at this tiny estate, which boasts some of the most superlative vineyard sites in the river valley. From these sites the family crafts understated, refined, focused Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners of downright sedate complexity rather than obviously imposing richness or opulence. Their distinctive style has made their wines some of the most sought after in all of Austria, easily appealing to the current crop of wine lovers who embrace all things complex, cerebral and unflinchingly dry. The estate only seems to be gaining momentum. The most recent vintage exhibits the style of the Alzinger wines to an especially glorious degree, and seems driven by a new level of energy, suggesting that they may age even more impressively than earlier vintages. So come join us on Saturday as we taste through the latest releases from this benchmark Austrian estate.
