When a great artist chooses to collaborate with another great artist, the results are historic cultural touchstones. Witness the achievements of Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Paul McCartney and John Lennon, Queen and David Bowie. And for oeniphiles, the wines of Lingua Franca, a new Willamette Valley project spearheaded by master sommelier Larry Stone and Burgundian icon Dominique Lafon, are music to our ears.
After joint participation in a similarly styled operation in the Willamette Valley called Evening Land, their newest venture is distinct from anything they’ve made before, yet falls well within the purview of stylishly creative fine wines. Grapes are picked early, methods of extraction in the cellar are vehemently avoided, oak is admininsted with admirable restraint and different lots are tasted and blended together to achieve a balanced final product. The results are tensile and elegant, a line up of finely tuned Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays the likes of which recall an Old World sensibility. Join us on October 30th, for a wine dinner hosted by Larry Stone featuring a line up of his top 2016 bottlings.
