For those who have been keeping up on their food trends and reading the numerous best restaurant lists, you’ll have noticed the rise in popularity of Southern cuisine. Much of this can be linked to Sean Brock and his championing of heirloom grains and vegetables lost in the buckets of fried food that came to be synonymous with Southern cooking. These days, though, countless chefs across the nation have taken up the charge of proving that not only is Southern cooking at the root of American cuisine, it is the basis for our national culinary heritage. As with the idea of the “melting pot”, the food of the South draws on many cultural influences and incorporates indigenous ingredients as well as those brought with slaves and settlers from their homelands. Our Chef, Jessie, has cooked in restaurants across the South and has developed a love and appreciation for its food traditions; come share in this love!
